Inner Work & Real Change
The ego perceives itself as always in a state of becoming. The fantasy of the ego is that its inner deficiency and incompleteness will one day be resolved by its efforts and by constantly making progress. But the wisdom of the Enneagram teaches us something quite revolutionary: that this very striving for progress is both the source of our suffering and the very thing that keeps us stuck. A deep understanding of the Enneagram leads us to awaken to our ego projects and to learn to be. This does not mean doing nothing or being ineffectual; rather, it entails allowing the reality of each moment to affect us and transform us while we are fully living our lives.
In their Trainings and Workshops, Don and Russ emphasize the guiding principles that support the arising of Being in us, as well as examine particular "markers" of this capacity in each of the nine types. They explore the difference between the ego's idea of change and the real transformation of Being, and show how the Enneagram can help us recognize when real transformation is taking place.
